Well, now that we made it across the globe, I guess I should start with a tiny bit of what you are all waiting for—our new home in Doha, Qatar!
“…I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.” ~ John 14:2b-3
I was writing these verses today for my #WriteTheWord / #WriteTheWordWithHaelie scripture writing time, and they struck me in a whole new way today. (Scripture has a way of doing that when you write it…hence why I love to #WriteTheWord.)
Put yourself in my shoes and think about it.
I have basically heard these words from my husband on more than one occasion in our married life—the first being when we were just newlyweds only married a little over 2 years with a 7-month-old son fairly new to our lives.
No, my husband is not my Savior. No, his words are not holy. But, my Savior has given me a person in my life on this earth with whom to share and grow and learn together. And in that time, my Savior has allowed many situations in my life to become earthly parallels for my/our tangible spiritual education so that we can recognize some of what He has taught us in His Word being played out in our everyday lives.
I bet He has done the same for you, whether you have noticed it or not.
So, yes, once again in our marriage, almost 2 years ago already, my husband set off on a journey—this time across the world rather than just across the country like before. He went to a place far, far away from “home” in order to begin preparations for us to come join him in our new home—together, as a family—with him.
And here we are.
Just as one day, sooner than we realize, we will all be with our Savior—in the place He has been preparing for us.
And just like it took an extended amount of time for my husband’s preparations for us to be ready enough for us to join him more comfortably, it takes time for our Savior to ready His preparations for us to the point that we can most comfortably join Him.
And though we missed him dearly and struggled during our time apart, I am actually quite glad looking back that we did not join my husband here any sooner than we did. Life here would have been so much more difficult and stressful for us had we not been patient and let the preparations play out as they did prior to our arrival. Not that life and accommodations could EVER be difficult nor stressful in our ultimate home with our Savior in Glory, BUT He wants to make it JUST RIGHT for us. And apparently, it’s not quite there yet. Not for most of us, at least.
Not for most of us, at least.
Anyway, just wanted to share those thoughts as I lead into sharing some more of our tangible life here in the Middle East. (yes, that part is still very surreal…and I have a feeling it always will be in some way…for as long as we’re here, at least.)
Okay, so about that life we have here…
Our home, or villa as it is called here, in Qatar is quite large, so instead of overwhelming you with one humongous post about it, I will break it up into parts over several posts. I’ll also mix it up a bit so that you’re not just constantly seeing posts of our home, but instead will see posts of Qatar itself interspersed throughout as well.
Yes, this is the largest place we have ever lived in as a family, or at all for that matter. No, it’s not a mansion (though to some it could be considered so—it’s all a matter of perspective, after all). However, yes, it is COLOSSAL to us!
Without further adieu, let me just start sharing some pics.
So, I know you have seen a few of those outside pics of our villa already in previous posts, but I wanted to start the tour of our villa with a pretty complete tour of the outside. I will pick up the next villa post with the first couple of rooms you enter when you walk in. At least that’s my plan…best laid plans…Lord willin’ (or as they say here Inshallah). We shall see!
In the meantime, be praying for us as we continue to pray for you!
And be comforted knowing that this world is not our home. We are just passing through. Our Savior is busy preparing our palatial villa in Glory for us. Because of this, I am fairly easily able to be “at home” just about anywhere on this earth…literally!
How about you?
Might He be calling you to step out of your comfort zone while on this earth?
Maybe these reminders will give you the courage and comfort to do so. They sure do that for me!
Until next time…
